Company Verification

How to Verify a DIN and Director Details Online

A DIN ties a person to every board seat they've held. Here's how to look up a director on MCA, cross-check against Infyner, and spot disqualified or deactivated DINs before you appoint someone.

A director's DIN is like their corporate fingerprint in India - same 8-digit number across every board they've ever sat on. When you're onboarding a vendor or appraising a borrower, verifying the DIN takes less time than a coffee break and tells you a surprising amount about who's actually behind the company.

What you're verifying

DIN (Director Identification Number) is the permanent 8-digit ID MCA assigns to every director. It stays with the person for life - across appointments, resignations, and even companies that shut down. If someone claims to be a director but can't produce a valid, active DIN, that's your first stop.

Check DIN on MCA

On MCA21, go to MCA Services β†’ DIN Services β†’ DIN Status / View DIN Details. Enter the 8-digit DIN. You'll see the director's name, DIN status (Approved, Deactivated, etc.), and whether DIR-3 KYC is current.

  • Approved / Active - DIN is valid and KYC is up to date
  • Deactivated due to non-filing of DIR-3 KYC - director can't sign MCA forms until fixed
  • Disqualified - director may be barred under Section 164; serious red flag

Map the director's company list

From the DIN profile, MCA shows every company where the person is (or was) a director. This is gold for diligence - you can spot if someone sits on twenty shell companies, or if they've resigned from every board except the one they're pitching you.

Pro tip from the field. Cross-check the DIN holder's name against the director list on the company's master data. Names with slight spelling variations happen - especially with middle names - but the DIN should match exactly.

Verify DIN on Infyner

Search by DIN on Infyner and you get the director's full appointment history, current and past companies, and links to each company profile. Handy when you're running vendor KYC or mapping promoter networks before an investment.

For board-level red flags - disqualified directors, deactivated DINs, sudden mass resignations - see MCA red flags for credit.

Common questions

Can a person have more than one DIN?

No. MCA rules allow only one DIN per person. Duplicate DINs get merged or cancelled.

How do I verify a director without their DIN?

Search the company CIN on MCA master data - the director list shows names and DINs. Or search by director name on Infyner.

What if DIN status shows Deactivated?

The director hasn't filed annual DIR-3 KYC. They can't sign e-forms until it's reactivated with a late fee.

Is DIN verification enough for KYC?

It's one layer. Full KYC also needs CIN verification, GSTIN, PAN, and bank account confirmation.

Can a disqualified director still appear on master data?

They may appear until MCA processes removal. Check DIN status separately - disqualification is flagged there.
